It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tom McManus
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tom McManus
It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tom McManus, founder and greatest supporter of Barrowby Connemaras. Tom loved his ponies, his cattle, his life. There is a huge hole that we are all still coming to terms with. There was still so much that he wanted to do, his plans were not complete. I hope that we can do him proud as we continue to fulfil his dream. Tom’s family and the team at Barrowby are incredibly grateful for all the support and words of kindness at this very difficult time.

Wow!! What a day, Tom and the Farm Guys had the yard looking amazing, Megan and the girls had ALL the ponies presented to perfection, the inspections ran perfectly and the afternoon was filled with a presentation and talk from Frankie about the stallions here and a walk through the breeding mares and youngstock, followed by the most important part of the day, the most amazing lunch organised by Geraldine.
The inspections brought a fabulous standard of pony to the day all of whom gained Class 1

2017 British National Foal of the Year
A first for Barrowby Connemaras to make the trip to the midlands to the BNFOY Show and what a day, hundreds of foals had been prepared for this fabulous show.
Barrowby Matchmade has been an unbelievably rewarding homebred, out of of BCPS Champion mare Kirtle Maple Leaf and by Killour Star our young stallion that we bought as a very young colt, this filly just keeps on giving, earlier in the year she was awarded a first premium with BEF and Gold Premium with SPSS. Going onto the BNFOY without her dam she won a huge, very hotly contested Connemara foal class and a win her second class of the day against all types representing the creme gene, she later went Champion. Being so far from home with a young foal we didn't stay for the supreme she had done more than enough for us as breeders with her impeccable manners throughout.
We even got our picture in Horse and Hound :)

Breeders goals right there!
Homebred-Purebred Connemara Barrowby Lord D'arcy gained a Higher First Premium as an Event Pony with British Equestrian Federation with the lovely surprise of a Diploma award for his Dam Cill Bhrid Judy who is also the Dam of last years First Premium Awarded ThunderRebel, at the Futurity evaluations the ponies are Vetted and Evaluated, it is a great structure for producing top level ponies for sport with backing for us as Breeders from the BEF that our ponies are amongst some of the best!
BEF DEFINITION
"A horse or pony that has an average of scores over 8.5 and a vet score of B or above which means that it has the potential and outlook to perform well at national level, if veterinary guidance is followed and the horse or pony is appropriately cared-for, produced and ridden. The main difference between a higher first and a first is that the evaluators believe it shows greater athleticism and a greater potential to obtain a higher number of points/prize money and/or be in the placings so as to set it apart from a First premium"
British Connemara Breed Show
Cree Diego returns as a 2year old after winning the yearlings in 2016 going one better this year he stands Youngstock Champion and reserve champion in the Tam O'Shanter Final.
Champion Connemara and through to the Cuddy!
Kiltartan Empress wins the biggest adult class we've seen all year and goes on to take the championship in the greatest of company at Cheshire County Show
Killaspic Ross Reigns Champion
Following on from 2016's Supreme Champion title at the Lincoln Breed Show on his debut outing since arriving in the UK, Killaspic Ross took to the showground newly backed in 2017 to win a hotly contested Novice Ridden and went on to take the Ridden champion title, a huge achievement and major proud moment as he was up against two HOYS qualified Stallions and a number of experienced mares and geldings, he has age on his side but he had only a few months ridden education, what a true legend he is.

I will update the website as soon as possible but in the meantime...

- Tochar Spirit sold to a showing home
- Barrowby Broadcastle sold to a eventing home
